What's new: August 2026

A couple of weeks ago we introduced cardcast.gg to the world. Here’s an update.

The sidebar resizes now

The sidebar containing the card detection, game details, and player settings can now be dragged horizontally to better accomodate various screen resolutions.

In addition, to buy smaller screen resolutions some extra space, the three tabs became icons instead of text in the process.

Drag the edge; the card preview grows with it.

New sets keep showing up

All of cardcast’s card data comes from Scryfall. cardcast checks Scryfall for updates daily, transparently downloading changes and reloading the internal metadata that powers card detection and lookup. This means that you no longer need to wait for updates when new cards come out, they just show up automatically.

More content for newcomers

Most of the last few weeks went into words rather than code:

  • FAQ: do I need an account, what hardware do I need, which decklist sites work. Plus an answer for the people who arrive here looking for the old Cards Against Humanity site. It shut down. Sorry. Naming things is hard.
  • cardcast vs SpellTable: a side-by-side feature comparison of the two. Helps new players understand what we have to offer on familiar terms.
  • Mobile: the site is actually readable on a phone now. (Playing still requires a monitor and a webcam.)

What’s next

Looking ahead, here’s what we’re thinking about:

  • Documentation: cardcast offers a lot, but not much has been written about it. We’re looking to expand that. The team has been working on documentation to answer specific questions and offer helpful guides for people getting started.
  • A short intro video for the landing page. Pointing a webcam at your table and having cards recognize themselves is much easier to show than to describe.
